Fairwind Racing 2012

Fairwind Yacht Club has a active group of racers. Some race on club boats, some crew for other skippers. 

The goals for FYC Racing are to have fun, get members to participate, learn more about racing, enjoy some friendly competition and did we mention....HAVE FUN!

Announcements of some upcoming 2012 races and seminars are posted on the Members' Calendar.  For complete race activities by local yacht clubs the best source is the ASMBYC website, see the link in left column. Individual yacht clubs have details of races they sponsor on their websites, see the left column for links.

BLUE-BY-U after the start, TNT Race #4, Series 1

TNT Series 3 starts Tuesday, June 17th
This Series of 5 Races again starts at 6:00 PM outside the Breakwater between the "SS" Mark and the flagpole.  The course for A Class is to "G" Buoy, then to Santa Monica "SM1", return to the North Entrance and finish inside at the "B" Quarantine buoy.  For Class B, the course is the same except they go direct to "SM1" Buoy from the start.

FYC Boats expected to participate are BLUE-BY-U, COLLECTIVE EFFORT, HAPPY OURS, and SEAWEED.  There will be opportunities each week for new crew to join.  Contact Tom Greene at tgreene67@gmail.com if you are interested in crewing on one of the boats.

TNT Series 2 - Tuesday, May 15th - June 12th, 2012
This was a series of 5 races on Tuesday Night starting at 6:00PM.  The course for this series started outside the Breakwater at the "SS" Buoy then to windward mark "J" Buoy and a reach to El Segundo Buoy "ES2" and return the South Entrance and finish inside at the "B" Quarantine buoy.   (See below for more info on TNT Races.  See the Race Results (statistics) for TNT Series 2 races for detailed race results.)
Overall results in Class A of 7 boats: 
BLUE-BY-U - *!*!*!*  1st Place   *!*!*!*
COLLECTIVE EFFORT - 4th
HAPPY OURS - 6th.
SEAWEED joined us in Class B for Race #5 as a warm-up for Series 3 and placed 3rd of 6 boats for a very good start!

TNT Series 1 - April 3rd to May 8th, 2012

VIC SMITH Tuesday Night Trials (TNT Races):  April 3rd to Oct 30th, 2012

 The Venture MacGregor Fleet holds the TNT Races every Tuesday night all summer and fall with the start at 6:00 PM.

 There will be 6 Series of 5 Races each between April 3rd and Oct 30th, 2012.  This is a good race for beginners to get an introduction to racing as there are less than 20 boats starting and the racers are pretty laid-back.  There are some very competitive racing machines (J-boats) in the group but also some under-crewed cruising boats. You can become a member of the Venture MacGregor Fleet for $20 per year.  Races are $1.00 each for members and $5.00 for non-members.  After the race the sailors meet at THE SHACK in Playa del Rey for Burgers, Beer, and Lies.  Trophies will presented to the winners of each series and the overall winners for the year.

City of Hope Regatta, Sunday, May 20th by SMWYC

Congratulations to Hali Kristjansson in BLUE-BY-U who placed third in the Cruising Class of 6 boats. The race covered 11.4 miles with 21 boat in three classes.

 Sunset Series Wednesday Nights -- by CYC:   April 11th - Sept 5th 2012

These are serious races of up to 100 boats in 8 classes with starting times from 1755 to 1830. FYC boats would most likely be one of three classes:  PHRF E, Cruising A or Cruising B, see Notice to Racers #1 for class splits.  A new PHRF rating is required or for Cruising classes a rating form must be sent to the Cruising Chair in advance.  For details you need to go to the CYC website and click on SAILING>>REGATTAS>>SUNSET SERIES  The FYC Race Chair plans/hopes to have at least one FYC boat enter later in the season once we have gained some experience with the TNT Races. 

BBQ Race #1  - SMWYC   April 15, 2012

FYC had one boat participating:  SEAWEED skippered by Eric Souther who placed 2nd of 5 boats in his class.  Congrats to Eric!

BBQ Race #2 - SMWYC - June 3, 2012

BLUE-BY-U participated and took 1st place in Cruiser - B with Hali Kristjansson at the helm.  Congrats to Hali!

ASMBYC Homeport Regatta  -  SMWYC   Sunday, April 22, 2012

FYC had one boat in the regatta, SEAWEED, with Eric Souther as the novice skipper.  The winds were light and flukey.  SEAWEED completed only the first race.
